How to find out what region the player is set to?

HOME MENU,INITIAL SETTINGS,go to OPTIONS (do not enter sub menu),press "DISPLAY" on your Remote Control

How can i make my player region free?

There is a couple of ways to do this.
The easiest way today is to upgrade your firmware with one of the unofficial firmwares.
Find the region free codes at www.videohelp.com

I want my player to be region free but only want to use the original firmwares from Pioneer.
1. Upgrade your players firmware with eighter Mtz 7.1 or Gufiak 2.10.XX.
2. Press Enter button ( the one nearest to the numpad) till your player turn it self off.
3. Up(Down)grade your players firmware to one of the Pioneer original firmwares.
4. Your player should now be region free

With Foncreators Firmware5
1. Upgrader your player with Foncreators firmware.
2. Turn off your player
3. Turn your player on
4. Upgrade your player with the original Pioneer firmware that you want.
5. Your player should now be region free.

Is it possible to make your player region free with a computer(laptop) and IR?

Yes thats possible. Just download the following zip file and follow the instructions.Region free via IR
This works for all newer Pioneer DVD players
You might need to buy/build one of these:

IR Shell and then use the CCF file that is for Philips Pronto that you find futher down the page.
My player says Region 2 even that i have bought/made it region free?

By some strange reason it shows the original region setting. Only way to control that your player is region free is to play an DVD disc for another region.
With one of the unofficial firmware in the player it now says Region 0.

If I down/upgrade my firmware, will the player lose it region free settings?

Your player will still be region free after you have down/upgraded it.

Is it possible to make it region free with a cell phone?

Yes. A symbian phone (like nokia 6600) will do the trick. Just install Psiloc Total IR Remote (15-day trial) & this CCF template, install Total IR to your phone & import to it the template. Assign a button to the code region free hack, press the button facing the IR of the phone to your player. Youll know it has worked when the player shuts down automatically. Power your player now and it is region free (regarding it still says Region 1 or 2).
You might need to uninstall other IR softwear in your phone to avoid conflicts.

4. Import the database in omniremote
5. Turn on your DVD Player. Press 0 on the palm. DVD Player turns off and is now region free.
